Medical and Diagnostic Imaging Modalities
Bioclinica has extensive experience with medical imaging and diagnostic imaging modalities for clinical trials.
CT A computerized tomography (CT) scan combines a series of X-ray images taken from different angles and uses computer processing to create cross-sectional images, or slices, of the bones, blood vessels and soft tissues inside your body. |
DXA Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) is most often used to diagnose osteoporosis. The DXA scanner measures the bone mineral density (BMD) and can be used to predict fracture risk. The same scan can measure the fat and lean composition of the body. |
Endoscopy Endoscopy is a procedure used in medicine to look inside the body by inserting a camera directly into the body through natural openings or surgical incisions. |
Medical photography Medical photography is the documentation of the clinical presentation of disease or disorders or outcomes of therapeutic interventions. |
MRI Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses radio waves and magnets to interact with water molecules to form a cross-sectional image of the body, similar to CT. It is particularly useful for imaging the brain, organs, muscles and joints. |
Molecular Imaging Molecular Imaging focuses on imaging molecules of medical interest within living patients by the injection of radioactive tracers into the body and recording the emitted radiation. |
OCT Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is an imaging technique that uses low-coherence light to capture micrometer-resolution, two- and three-dimensional images from within optical scattering media. |
Ultrasound Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to visualize the internal structures of the body. Special techniques can be used to detect and measure blood flow in vessels and the material properties of tissues. |
Radiography Radiography uses X-rays to image the internal of the body in particular the bones and joints. Liquids that absorb X-rays may be injected into the body to visualize the vascular system and other structures. |
